Poorly maintained Fire Doors could leave you with a hefty fine…

On 30th August, a Birmingham landlord was hit with a fine of almost £40,000 for being found guilty of breaching House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) management regulations.

Birmingham Council Officers said that the rental property was the ‘worst they had seen in the last 10 years’ following the visit to the property, where they found blocked fire exits and ill-fitting fire doors, amongst other serious fire safety failings.

As it approaches Fire Door Safety Week, it is important that everyone knows that fire doors are no ordinary doors, they are in fact a crucial part of the passive fire protection of every commercial, public and multiple occupancy building.

Fire doors compartmentalise buildings, preventing smoke and flames from spreading – often they can make all the difference between life and death of anyone that may be caught inside, in the event of a fire.

Fire FM are proud to say that they are supporting Fire Door Safety Week (24th – 30th September) 2018. The campaign aims to engage and educate building owners and building users on how to use fire doors properly and how to spot when they need maintenance.
